Every bag we collect will be a data point in NYC's fight against fashion waste. Here is where we are headed — and the targets we are building toward.
Pickups — Near-Term Target
Projected door-step collections across all five boroughs
Textiles Diverted — Target
Projected lbs kept out of NYC landfill and incinerators
Water Saved — Projected
Equivalent to 278 Olympic swimming pools
CO₂ Avoided — Projected
Equal to taking 500 cars off the road for a year
Energy Recovered — Projected
Through textile-to-fiber and closed-loop processing
NYC Partners — Target
City agencies, BIDs, and community organizations in development
Nothing we collect will go straight to landfill. Each item will be sorted and routed to the highest-value recovery pathway — prioritizing chemical and mechanical recycling, followed by upcycling and charitable fulfillment.
Wearable items fulfilling donation mandates for community charities
Broken down into raw fiber for new textiles
Repurposed by NYC independent fashion designers
Converted to insulation, padding, and industrial rags
Items too degraded for any recovery pathway
Thriftier NYC is actively developing partnerships with city agencies, business improvement districts, and community organizations to embed fashion recycling into the infrastructure of every borough.
We are building relationships with fashion brands and resale platforms that are serious about extended producer responsibility — with the goal of connecting their take-back programs directly to NYC residents.
Annual Pickups
Scaling to 250,000 door-step collections per year across all five boroughs by 2027.
Clothing Diverted
Targeting 5 million pounds of recycled textiles diverted from NYC landfill annually by 2027.
Brand Partners
Onboarding 100 fashion brands into NYC-based take-back and extended producer responsibility programs.
Every enrollment moves us closer to the targets above. Join the program — it is free, it is fast, and your block becomes part of NYC's sustainability story.
